Callie is still sick, but we’re hopeful she is getting better. Today, her pediatrician said her lungs sounded much better than they sounded Thursday.
We are grateful for this good news because there have been times in each of the past few days when we thought Callie might not fully recover from this sickness.
On Thursday night she suddenly was unable to breathe properly. With help from her doctor, nurses, bi-pap machine and medicine, she got through that frightening hour. Both her pediatrician and her pulmonologist (who was in touch with our pediatrician) thought Callie possibly had a mucus plug blocking the flow of air in one of her lungs. We also know that fatigue was a big factor.
Since Thursday Callie has slept a lot. When she’s not asleep, we often are using cough assist, chest physiotherapy, breathing treatments, oxygen or medicine to control her symptoms. These therapies help Callie rest. Rest is key to her recovery.
Callie continues to aspirate on food and drink. Since she’s on two antibiotics, she should be safe from infections that can result from aspiration. Over the next week we hope she will regain enough strength to keep from aspirating as she prepares to go off her antibiotics.
Right now the only way to prevent aspiration is to stop feeding Callie orally. But telling Callie she can’t eat when she says she’s hungry would detract from her quality of life.
We’ll post another update in a week or so. We are thankful for the prayers, thoughts, comments and e-mails, and the invaluable support from Callie’s entire health care team.
I hope by the time this email gets to you all that Callie is doing better. Her life and the way you all adapt always helps me put everything else in perspective. That is a gift. Thank you. Peggy Matthews
Loving prayers for Callie and for all of you as you face these challenges.
Our hearts and prayers are with you all. Also with the medical staff as they work with Callie. I know we all are claiming the loving presence of God to provide strength for Callie, for Nathan and Christy, for Isaac and Ezra and Peter, and for the larger family.
I continue to pray daily for Callie. Such as this is hard for any age person but it is so hard to see little children suffer through the the illnesses, the treatments and the set backs. God’s blessings are upon your family.
continued prayers for all
Know that your “Ware Shoals Family” is praying for you everyday and that we pray for each one of you, that God will give you strength during this time. Thank you for your ministry to us through your faith that you show us as you deal with so much………we are lifting Callie and Isaac up in our daily prayers but we also have Daddy and Mama in those prayers as we pray for special strength that only HE can provide.
Your family is going through a lot. I am praying for times of refreshment. May the power of God sustain all of you…and may the hope He offers give you the strength and joy you need for each day. Much love sent.
Take care. God has placed Callie in a very special family. Thinking of Isaac, too. Through Callie and your entire family, God has used your trials to affect many in positive ways. We join in praying for your continued faith and trust in God.
Grateful for any and all good news. (Thank you, Lord!) Still asking God for miracles for Callie and her sweet family…
FPC staff continue to pray for you all
God has a way, if we seek His Will, of making sure we’re never short for something to pray about—To give thanks for! I am thankful I get to join Dan and Faye as my brother and sister in God, and His abundant mercy, and love. To share in His Grace, which He says is sufficient. And to ask that His Abundant Mercy and Love, and His Sufficient Grace, surround this young family.
Healing prayers!
Thanks for keeping us updated, as we know you guys are very busy caring for Callie and the boys. We continue to keep Callie and the Golden family in our prayers.
